Friends of the Bay’s Water Quality Monitoring Program is an important component of our efforts to protect the Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor Estuary and the surrounding watershed. This program was developed in cooperation with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, United States Environmental Protection Agency, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, local governments and other citizen monitoring groups around Long Island Sound.
Friends of the Bay received Environmental Protection Agency approval for a Quality Assurance Project Plan in 2006 and later updated in 2020. The plan formalizes quality assurance procedures for data collection and ensures that our data can be used by the EPA and other agencies. In 2009, Friends of the Bay received an EPA Region 2 Environment Award for our citizen monitoring program.
The Quality Assurance Project Plan for our harbor monitoring program, as well as our stream and outfall monitoring programs, are provided below.
