State of the Watershed

The State of the Watershed Report summarizes existing environmental and land use conditions in the watershed.  It is a comprehensive document that integrates many environmental indicators to assess the current health of the watershed and potential future threats.  The report provides a baseline assessment of watershed conditions, which can be updated periodically to evaluate changes in the watershed and help direct watershed management planning.

The State of the Watershed Report is the first step in developing a watershed management plan for the harbor complex, following an approach endorsed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for developing watershed-based plans.  The State of the Watershed Report serves as the basis for the Watershed Action Plan, which will identify prioritized action items to protect and improve the ecological integrity of the estuary and surrounding watershed.
